Assistant Director of Social Care (Assessment & Support Planning)
Welcome messages
Councillor Alan Rudge
Cabinet Member for Equalities & Human Resources
Welcome to our microsite. I hope that the additional information you find here helps you appreciate the importance of this post.
We've recently embarked on an ambitious transformation programme across the whole council. Your role will form part of the wider Adults & Communities management team, in which you'll be responsible for ensuring our city's most vulnerable people are protected and given the highest standard of services – improving and shaping their health, wellbeing and lives.
On the following pages, you'll find out more about the service, Directorate and the council, as well as our city. Your role will be challenging, but you can be confident that you'll receive significant help to deliver better outcomes for those who depend on us most.
I look forward to receiving your application.
Councillor Anderson
Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities
Thank you for your interest in applying for the post. As Lead Cabinet Member for Adults & Communities, I am very proud of the success our Directorate has achieved, particularly over the past five years.
Take a look through this site, and you'll find out more about the commitment you will need to create effective teams - working in partnership in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will also need immense focus to implement and embed a robust performance culture.
As a good authority, we are looking for leaders who can help us go the extra mile to achieve greater excellence. I look forward to hearing from anyone with the enthusiasm and skills needed to excel in this role, for our council and for Birmingham.
Good luck with your application.
Sheila Rochester
Service Director, Assessment and Support Planning
This post is one of five newly created Assistant Director posts. Together with your fellow Directors, you'll be expected to provide clear leadership for the further transformation of the Adults & Communities Directorate. Working closely with myself and the Assistant Director for Social Care Workforce, you'll be driven to build on the success we've achieved to date.
Our transformation began a couple of years ago. And we're currently implementing a new management structure which reflects the innovative way we want everyone to work.
The two Assistant Directors in my services will have separate responsibilities for the way services are delivered. One focuses on the customer experience; the other on the skills and competencies of our social care workforce. Strong teamwork will be crucial to our success.
Your challenge will be to reduce dependencies and deliver better outcomes within tight budgets. With new ideas and an in-depth understanding, you'll foster a sense of self support - enabling the people across our diverse community to achieve the very most from life.
Working collaboratively with other agencies your aim will be to develop new opportunities for improving people's lives. You’ll also be expected to work closely with key stakeholders and Elected Members, to deliver BCC priorities for a healthier Birmingham.
This is an exciting and demanding new role, in which you'll be supported and rewarded highly for your contribution.
I look forward to hearing from you.
