About Birmingham

Birmingham has undergone a major renaissance in recent years and has grown to become a truly world-class city. Britain’s second city – widely regarded as Britain’s first city by many – is a flourishing fusion of attractive squares, modern shopping arcades, diverse pubs and fine museums.
The city’s enviable variety of attractions now includes one of the top European shopping centres – the Bullring – premier sports facilities, an extensive choice of restaurants and bars as well as the world-famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Birmingham Royal Ballet. We’re also home to four first-class theatres and a range of fascinating heritage buildings, museums and art galleries and many fantastic live music venues.
Located at the heart of the UK motorway network with the M6, M5 and M42 all nearby, Birmingham has excellent links to the rest of the country. The city’s three mainline train stations make it convenient to reach from anywhere in the UK. Birmingham's International Airport, which has expansion plans, has flights to hundreds of destinations around the globe.
There are a range of exciting regeneration projects underway in Birmingham, including high profile developments such as Longbridge, the Eastern Corridor and the runway extension. Looking to the future, work is underway for New Street train station and the new Library of Birmingham, to be situated in Centenary Square.
