Our Directorate
Across the council, we’re always looking for new ways of doing things. We’re clearly focused on improving our services and transforming the way we work. And our Adults & Communities Directorate is where this commitment really comes alive.
Building on our change programme, we’ve already achieved a huge amount. In the recent annual Care Quality Commission assessment, our Adult Social Care Services were recognised as "performing well" across the seven key outcomes. This shows how far we’ve come in just a few years. But the journey to excellence is our real goal.
Our Directorate is:
- Well advanced in delivering its ambitious and difficult modernisation of socal care.
- Ideally placed to continue apace with these programmes.
- Delivering significant cashable efficiencies and other productivity gains in extremely difficult circumstances.
- Already top-performing on the key measures judged by the government.
- Leading the way locally and nationally in providing and supporting key services and project – particularly in partnership with the NHS.
Our plans for the future include:
- Continuing to focus on ensuring people are helped to regain previous, or even higher, levels of independence and fulfilment.
- Supporting people to take more control of their own lives - particularly through increased access to financial benefits, new technology, equipment, and other wider networks of support.
- Further strengthening adult safeguarding governance, processes, staff training and support.
- Delivering further significant efficiency savings.
- Developing the information held jointly with our partners to better match available resources with the needs of individual people, localities, and the city as a whole.
- Shaping commissioning strategies and detailed plans to purchase and withdraw from services across all service user and carer groups.
- Continuing to work closely with other services to improve the health of all the people living in this City.
- Fundamentally reorganising the Adults and Communities Directorate, and further exploring opportunities presented by joint working.
These are exciting and challenging times for the Assessment & Support Planning Services. The changes ahead will have an incredible impact on the way we all work. And we’re determined to embrace the opportunity to move forward.
